Healthcare

Our district sits just a stone's throw away from the Houston Medical Center which boasts many of the nation’s top ranked hospitals. Yet, Texas leads the nation in uninsured individuals and has a higher than national average maternal and infant mortality rate–these numbers increase when considering demographics. Statistics for our residents should match the reputation of our hospitals, and we should work toward becoming the nation’s leader in healthcare and medical innovation.

  • Expand Medicaid: Close the coverage gap so working families and individuals can access preventative and life-saving care
  • Protect Patient-Doctor Decision-Making: Keep personal medical decisions between patients and their doctors--not politicians
  • Lower Healthcare Costs: Address rising insurance premiums, prescription drug prices, and surprise medical billing through transparency and consumer protections
  • Mental Health Investment: Expand community-based and school-based mental health services, crisis response programs, and workforce incentives
  • Maternal & Infant Health: Reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by improving access to prenatal, postpartum, and rural/coastal healthcare services
  • Support Medical Research & Innovation: Invest in research that improves outcomes and expands treatment options for Texas families
